The "World’s Largest Hackathon presented by Bolt" is an online hackathon organized by StackBlitz, Inc. (Sponsor) and administered by Devpost, Inc. (Administrator). The event spans from April 16, 2025 (Registration opens) to July 26, 2025 (Winners announced), with the Submission Period from May 30, 2025, to June 30, 2025, and the Judging Period from July 7, 2025, to July 22, 2025. All times are Pacific Time.
Eligibility: Participation is open to Eligible Individuals (those at least the age of majority in their residence), Guardians of students under 18, Teams of Eligible Individuals, and established Organizations. Entrants must reside in or be domiciled in a region not prohibited by U.S. or local law, explicitly excluding residents of Brazil, China, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Quebec, Russia, Syria, and OFAC-designated countries. Individuals are limited to one account per platform/tool for registration and submission. However, an individual may participate on multiple Teams/Organizations and also submit an individual entry. Teams or Organizations must designate a single Representative. Exclusions apply to Promotion Entities (Sponsor, Administrator, and those involved in hackathon design/production/promotion), their immediate family/household members, Judges and their employers, and any entity creating a conflict of interest.
How to Enter & Submission Requirements: Entrants must register on the Hackathon Website (worldslargesthackathon.devpost.com) via Devpost and sign up for the free plan on https://bolt.new/ to access required developer tools.
The core project requirement mandates building a *new* application primarily with Bolt.new. The Project can be built entirely on Bolt.new or significantly started there, with core functionality and final experience running within Bolt. Limited use of external tools for supporting roles (e.g., design, prototyping) is permitted if minimal and documented. The publicly deployed Project interface must include a "Built on Bolt" badge, and Entrants must confirm Bolt.new usage and provide the Bolt.new project URL. Projects must be functional, capable of installation/running consistently, and newly created after the Submission Period began. Integration of third-party SDKs, APIs, or data requires proper authorization and licensing.
Submissions must include:
- A publicly available URL to the functional Project.
- A text description explaining features, functionality, and how it meets any Challenge or Bonus Requirements.
- Selection of a Geographical Region.
- A demonstration video (under three minutes, publicly visible on YouTube) showcasing the Project, its functionality, and any Challenge/Bonus elements. The video must not contain unauthorized third-party trademarks or copyrighted material.
Multiple submissions are allowed, provided each is unique and substantially different. Submissions must be the Entrant's original work, solely owned, and not infringe intellectual property (IP) rights. Open-source software use is permitted if licenses are complied with and the submission enhances the open-source product. Projects developed with financial or preferential support from the Sponsor or Administrator are ineligible. Testing access to the Project (via URL, demo, test build, or specific instructions for Android/iOS apps) must be provided free of charge until the Judging Period ends. All submission materials must be in English or include English translations.
Judging Criteria: The judging process involves two stages:
- Stage One (Pass/Fail): Determines if the Project meets baseline viability, fits the Hackathon theme, and reasonably used Bolt.new.
- Stage Two (Evaluation): All passing submissions are evaluated by a panel of Judges based on four equally weighted criteria:
- Potential Impact: The significance of the problem addressed, effectiveness of the solution, and potential for resonance/virality.
- Quality of the Idea: Creativity, uniqueness, innovation, and improvement upon existing solutions.
- Technological Implementation: Quality of software development, interesting/advanced use of Bolt.new offerings, and well-thought-out infrastructure/code execution.
- Design: User experience and design quality, balance between frontend and backend.
Intellectual Property: While Entrants retain IP rights to their Submissions, by entering, they grant the Sponsor a fully paid, non-exclusive license to use the entry for judging. Both the Sponsor and Devpost gain the right to promote the Submission and use Entrant names, likenesses, voices, and images for Hackathon promotion for three years. Entrants warrant that submitted content is original, not subject to third-party IP (unless authorized), and free of malicious code.
Prizes: Prizes are awarded across four categories:
- Global Prizes (1st-10th Place): Range from 10,000 USD for 10th place, each including $25,000 in AWS Credits and an Espresso Monitor.
- Regional Highlights (AMER, APAC, EMEA): Three winners per region, each receiving $10,000 USD and an Espresso Monitor.
- Challenge Prizes: Awarded for integrating specific technologies (e.g., RevenueCat, Entri/IONOS, Algorand, Tavus, ElevenLabs, Netlify, Reddit Developer Platform, Supabase). Each Challenge Prize is $25,000 USD plus an Espresso Monitor, with varying quantities per challenge.
- Bonus Prizes: Awarded for specific achievements or attributes (e.g., "Standout Event Hosts," "Inspirational Story," "One-Shot Competition," "Top Build-in-Public Journey," "Uniquely Useful Tool," "Creative Use of AI," "Most Beautiful UI," "Most Viral Project," "Future Unicorn," "Sharpest Problem Fit," "We Didn’t Know We Needed This," "Most Likely to Get Funded"). Prize Eligibility Rules: A single Eligible Submission can win a maximum of one (1) Global Prize *or* one (1) Regional Prize, in addition to up to one (1) Challenge Prize and up to one (1) Bonus Prize. If a Submission qualifies for multiple prizes within the same category (e.g., both Global and Regional), the prize with the higher monetary value takes precedence. Winners are subject to identity and qualification verification and are responsible for all associated fees and taxes. Prizes are non-transferable and delivered within 60 days of required form submission.
