Key Points

  • 1NVIDIA has launched the RTX PRO 5000 72GB Blackwell GPU, designed to enable the local training and deployment of large AI models on desktop systems.
  • 2This new GPU features 72GB of GDDR7 memory, a 50% increase over its predecessor, alongside enhanced AI compute performance of 2142 TOPS and significant improvements in rendering and graphics for various applications.
  • 3Already being adopted by engineering design and virtual production firms, the RTX PRO 5000 72GB aims to overcome memory constraints for generative AI, design optimization, and high-resolution media creation.

NVIDIA officially launched the RTX PRO 5000 72GB Blackwell GPU on December 19, 2025, designed to enable the execution of large artificial intelligence (AI) models directly on desktop environments. This new professional-grade graphics processing unit (GPU) addresses the critical constraint of memory capacity that large language models (LLMs) and multimodal AI typically face, where models, input data, and conversational context must be simultaneously maintained in GPU memory.

The RTX PRO 5000 72GB features 72GB of GDDR7 memory, representing a 50% increase in capacity compared to its 48GB predecessor. This expanded memory is crucial for enabling the local training and fine-tuning of large-scale AI models on desktop systems.

In terms of performance, the GPU boasts significant improvements across various domains:

  • AI Computational Performance: It achieves an AI computational power of 2142 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second), capable of performing 2142 trillion operations per second.
  • Generative AI Performance: Image generation performance is enhanced by 3.5 times, and text generation performance is improved by 2 times compared to the previous generation.
  • Graphics and Design Performance: Rendering task times are reduced by up to 4.7 times. Additionally, graphic performance in computer-aided design (CAD) and product design fields is more than doubled.

The GPU is engineered to support the development of generative AI and agentic AI on desktops. Its capabilities are particularly beneficial for professionals in engineering design and virtual production. InfiniteFORM, an engineering design software company, is an early adopter, evaluating CUDA-accelerated generative AI design optimization software on the RTX PRO 5000 72GB. Similarly, Versatile Media, a virtual production company, plans to integrate the RTX PRO 5000 for managing large 3D scenes and high-resolution rendering, emphasizing that greater memory capacity provides "creative freedom" in cinematic virtual production.

The RTX PRO 5000 72GB is currently available for purchase through NVIDIA's global partner network.
